     He gained the rank of Captain in June 1716 in the Royal Navy.2 He held the office of Governor of Newfoundland in 1732.3 He held the office of Governor of New York in 1741.3 He gained the rank of Admiral of the White in 1761.3

     He gained the rank of Captain in the 2nd Dragoon Guards.1
