Godfrey Elton, 1st Baron Elton1 
Godfrey Elton, 1st Baron Elton was born on 29 March 1892 at Sherington, Buckinghamshire, England.1,3 He was the son of Edward Fiennes Elton and Violet Hylda Fletcher.4 He married Dedi Hartmann, daughter of Gustav Hartmann, on 17 August 1921.1 He died on 18 April 1973 at age 81.1
He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, at Siege of Kut-el-Amara where he was wounded and POW in Turkey, 1916–18.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 4th Hampshire Regiment.1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1919 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was a Fellow between 1919 and 1939 at Queen’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1920 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 In 1931 he was expelled from the Labour Party for supporting Ramsay MacDonald.1 He was a lecturer in modern history between 1931 and 1939 at Queen’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was created 1st Baron Elton, of Headington, co.
