Charles Grant, 1st and last Baron Gleneig was born on 26 October 1778.3 He was the son of Charles Grant and Jane Fraser.1,3 He died on 23 April 1866 at age 87 at Cannes, FranceG, unmarried.3
He graduated from Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1801 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)3 He graduated from Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1804 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn in 1807 entitled to practise as a barrister-at-law.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Inverness and Fortrose between 1811 and 1818.3 He held the office of a Lord of Treasury in 1813.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Inverness-shire between 1818 and 1835.3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1819.3 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1819.3 He held the office of Irish Secretary between 1819 and 1823.3 He held the office of Treasurer of the Navy between 1827 and 1828.3 He held the office of Vice-President of the Board of Trade between 1827 and 1828.3 He held the office of Colonial Secretary between 1835 and 1839.3 He was created 1st Baron Gleneig, of Glenelg, Inverness-shire [U.K.] on 11 May 1835.3
