     Gertrude Frances Haldane is the daughter of Francis Grove Haldane and Gertrude Hilda Taylor.²

     James Lindsay Haldane was born on 30 November 1866.¹ He was the son of James Haldane and Emily Grove.² He died on 30 June 1868 at age 1.¹

     Herbert William Haldane was born on 18 June 1870.¹ He was the son of James Haldane and Emily Grove.² He married Helen Rachel Alston, daughter of George Alston, on 8 January 1902.¹ He died on 1 September 1957 at age 87.¹
     He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, England^G.¹ He was registered as a Chartered Accountant (C.A.)¹ He was director of the Royal Bank of Scotland.¹

     George Alston lived at Craighead, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.¹

     Helen Rachel Alston was born circa 1876.¹ She was the daughter of George Alston.² She married Herbert William Haldane, son of James Haldane and Emily Grove, on 8 January 1902.¹ She died on 19 January 1965.¹
     From 8 January 1902, her married name became Haldane.

     James Haldane was born on 14 May 1903.² He was the son of Herbert William Haldane and Helen Rachel Alston.² He married Joanna Margaret Thorburn, daughter of Lt.-Col. William Thorburn, 2nd of Craigerne and Winifred Alison Hopkins, on 3 October 1939.² He died on 13 April 1990 at age 86.^2,3
     He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England^G.¹ He graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was registered as a Chartered Accountant (C.A.) in 1929.² He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Artillery.¹ He fought in the Second World War between 1940 and 1945.² He lived at The Old Schoolhouse, Gleneagles, Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland^G.²

     Lt.-Col. William Thorburn, 2nd of Craigerne was born on 17 July 1881.² He was the son of Colonel William Thorburn, 1st of Craigerne and Isabella Murray.² He married Winifred Alison Hopkins, daughter of Edward Hopkins, on 25 September 1909.² He died on 17 October 1959 at age 78.²
     He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹ He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)¹

     Joanna Margaret Thorburn was born on 16 September 1912.² She is the daughter of Lt.-Col. William Thorburn, 2nd of Craigerne and Winifred Alison Hopkins.^3,2 She married James Haldane, son of Herbert William Haldane and Helen Rachel Alston, on 3 October 1939.¹
     From 3 October 1939, her married name became Haldane.
