     Daniel Rutherford Haldane was born on 27 March 1824.¹ He was the son of James Alexander Haldane and Margaret Rutherford.² He married Charlotte Elizabeth Lowthrop, daughter of James Lowthrop, on 17 September 1856.¹ He died on 12 April 1887 at age 63.¹
     Daniel Rutherford Haldane usually went by his middle name of Rutherford.² He was educated at Edinburgh High School, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He graduated from University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G, with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)¹ He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers in 1867.¹ He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh (F.R.C.P.E.)¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court in 1878.¹ He was President of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh.¹

     James Lowthrop lived at Welton Hall, Yorkshire, England^G.¹

     Charlotte Elizabeth Lowthrop was the daughter of James Lowthrop.³ She married Daniel Rutherford Haldane, son of James Alexander Haldane and Margaret Rutherford, on 17 September 1856.¹ She died on 11 September 1908.¹
     From 17 September 1856, her married name became Haldane.

     General Sir James Aylmer Lowthorpe Haldane was born on 17 November 1862.¹ He was the son of Daniel Rutherford Haldane and Charlotte Elizabeth Lowthrop.² He died on 19 April 1950 at age 87, unmarried.¹
     He was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He was educated at Wimbledon College, Wimbledon, London, England^G.¹ He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He fought in the Waziristan Campaign in 1894.¹ He gained the rank of Chitral Campaign in 1895.¹ He was Aide-de-Camp to the Commander-in-Chief of India between 1896 and 1899.¹ He fought in the Tirah Campaign between 1897 and 1898.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1898.¹ He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1900, where he was severely wounded, and was mentioned in despatches.¹ He gained the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel in the 2nd Battalion, Gordon Highlanders.¹ He fought in the Russo-Japanese War between 1904 and 1905, as a military attaché with the Japanse Army.¹ He was awarded the Order of the Scared Treasure of Japan 3rd Class.¹ He fought in the First World War, in France and Belgium, and was mentioned in despatches nine times.¹ He was commanding offcier of the 10th Infantry Brigade.¹ He was commanding offcier of the 3rd Division.¹ He was awarded the Order of the Crown of Belgium 2nd Class.¹ He was commanding offcier of the 5th Corps.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1918.¹ He was awarded the Croix de Guerre Belgian.¹ He was awarded the Legion of Honour 3rd Class.¹ He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.¹ He was General Officer Commander-in-Chief of the Mesopotamia between 1920 and 1922.¹ He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1922.¹ He retired from the military in 1925, with the rank of General, late of the Gordon Highlanders.¹ He wrote the book The Haldanes of Gleneagles, published 1929.¹ He was appointed Knight of Grace, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.G.St.J.)¹

     Charlotte Wilhemina Lowthorpe Haldane was the daughter of Daniel Rutherford Haldane and Charlotte Elizabeth Lowthrop.² She died on 22 August 1945, unmarried.¹

     Margaret Harriet Rutherford Haldane was the daughter of Daniel Rutherford Haldane and Charlotte Elizabeth Lowthrop.² She married Reverend Henry Charles Percival on 16 January 1889.¹ She died on 1 August 1932.¹
     From 16 January 1889, her married name became Percival.

     Reverend Henry Charles Percival married Margaret Harriet Rutherford Haldane, daughter of Daniel Rutherford Haldane and Charlotte Elizabeth Lowthrop, on 16 January 1889.¹ He died on 6 December 1928.¹

     Edith Millicent Haldane was the daughter of Daniel Rutherford Haldane and Charlotte Elizabeth Lowthrop.² She died, young.¹

     Alice Mary Haldane was the daughter of Daniel Rutherford Haldane and Charlotte Elizabeth Lowthrop.² She died on 3 September 1943, unmarried.¹
     She was with the Young Men’s Christian Association and the Church Army in France during the First World War, and was mentioned in despatches.¹

     Anne Evelyn Haldane was the daughter of Daniel Rutherford Haldane and Charlotte Elizabeth Lowthrop.² She married Charles John Haldane Hogg, son of Sir Frederick Russell Hogg and Emily Eckford, on 16 December 1892.¹ She died on 29 October 1945.¹
     From 16 December 1892, her married name became Hogg.
