     Edward Mainwaring was baptised on 7 April 1635.¹ He was the son of Edward Mainwaring and Anne Lomax.¹ He married Bridget Trollope, daughter of Sir Thomas Trollope, 1st Bt. and Mary Clitheroe, on 29 July 1679.² He died in December 1703 at age 68.¹
     He held the office of Sheriff of Staffordshire.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newcastle-under-Lyme in 1685.¹ He lived at Whitmore, Staffordshire, England^G.²

     Bridget Trollope was born in 1637.² She was the daughter of Sir Thomas Trollope, 1st Bt. and Mary Clitheroe.^1,3 She married Edward Mainwaring, son of Edward Mainwaring and Anne Lomax, on 29 July 1679.⁴ She died on 20 May 1723.¹ She was buried on 27 May 1723.⁴
     From 29 July 1679, her married name became Mainwaring.¹

     Sir Thomas Trollope, 1st Bt. was born on 25 February 1595.^2,3 He was the son of William Trollope and Alice Sharpe.⁴ He married Hester Sturt Street, daughter of Nicholas Street, in 1620.² He married Mary Clitheroe, daughter of Sir Christopher Clitheroe, on 16 November 1635.² He died from 20 March 1651/52 to 7 March 1654/55.²
     He held the office of Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1641/42.² He was created 1st Baronet Trollope, of Casewick, co. Lincoln [England] on 5 February 1641/42.²

     Sir James Hamilton was born after 1601. He was the son of Thomas Hamilton, 1st Earl of Haddington and Margaret Foulis.¹ A contract for the marriage of Sir James Hamilton and Anna Hepburn was signed in September 1623.¹ He died circa 1666.¹
     He fought in the La Rochelle Expedition.¹ He lived at Priestfield, Scotland^G.¹

     Anna Hepburn is the daughter of Sir Patrick Hepburn of Waughton and Redbraes and Margaret Lauder.^1,2 A contract for the marriage of Anna Hepburn and Sir James Hamilton was signed in September 1623.¹
     From September 1623, her married name became Hamilton.¹

     Brig.-Gen. Sir Charles Loftus Bates was the son of Thomas Bates.¹ He died on 9 March 1951.¹
     He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.)¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)¹

     Sir John Hamilton was born on 3 November 1605.¹ He was the son of Thomas Hamilton, 1st Earl of Haddington and Margaret Foulis.¹ He married Katherine Peebles, daughter of Alexander Peebles, in August 1621.¹ He died before 1637.¹
     He lived at Trabourn, East Lothian, Scotland^G.¹

     Katherine Peebles is the daughter of Alexander Peebles.¹ She married Sir John Hamilton, son of Thomas Hamilton, 1st Earl of Haddington and Margaret Foulis, in August 1621.¹
     From August 1621, her married name became Hamilton.¹
