Edward Frederick Leveson-Gower was born on 3 May 1819 at London, England^G.^1,2 He was the son of Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Granville and Lady Harriet Elizabeth Cavendish.¹ He married Lady Margaret Mary Frances Elizabeth Compton, daughter of Spencer Joshua Alwyne Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton and Margaret Douglas-Maclean-Clephane, on 1 June 1851.¹ He died on 30 May 1907 at age 88.¹
     He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was a practising barrister.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Stoke-upon-Trent between 1852 and 1857.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Surrey.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Surrey.¹ He lived at Holmbury, Dorking, Surrey, England^G.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bodmin between 1859 and 1885.¹

     Lady Margaret Mary Frances Elizabeth Compton was the daughter of Spencer Joshua Alwyne Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton and Margaret Douglas-Maclean-Clephane.^1,2 She married Hon. Edward Frederick Leveson-Gower, son of Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Granville and Lady Harriet Elizabeth Cavendish, on 1 June 1851.¹ She died on 22 May 1858.¹
     From 1 June 1851, her married name became Leveson-Gower.¹
