(Tory) for Boroughbridge between 1796 and 1799.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1799.¹ He was created 1st Baron Eldon, of Eldon, co. Durham [Great Britain] on 18 July 1799.¹ He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.) by University College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, in 1801.¹ He held the office of High Steward of University College, Oxford University between 1801 and 1838.¹ He was created 1st Earl of Eldon, co. Durham [U.K.] on 7 July 1821.¹ He was created 1st Viscount Encombe, of Encombe, co. Dorset [U.K.] on 7 July 1821.¹

     William Scott married Jane Atkinson, daughter of Henry Atkinson and unknown daughter Lawson.¹ He died in 1776.¹
