He was given the name of Horace Brand Townsend-Farquhar at birth.1 He was a government clerk.3 He was with Sir Charles Forbes & Co, India merchants.3 He was created 1st Baronet Farquhar [U.K.] on 25 October 1892.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for West Marylebone between 1895 and 1898.1 He was created 1st Baron Farquhar, of St. Marylebone [U.K.] on 20 January 1898.1 He held the office of Member of the London County Council between 1899 and 1901, for East Marylebone.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) in 1901.2 He held the office of Master of the Household between 1901 and 1907.1 He held the office of Member of the London County Council between March 1901 and June 1901, for West Marylebone.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1902.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1907.2 He held the office of Extra Lord in Waiting to HM Edward VII between 1907 and 1910.3 He held the office of Extra Lord in Waiting to HM George V between 1910 and 1915.3 He held the office of Lord Steward of the Household in 1915.1 He was created 1st Viscount Farquhar [U.K.] on 21 June 1917.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Middlesex.3 He was a conduit for subscriptions to party political funds by aspirants to titles.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Middlesex.3 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1922.3 He was created 1st Earl Farquhar [U.K.] on 30 November 1922.1 On his death, his titles became extinct.2

Sir Walter Minto Townsend-Farquhar, 2nd Bt.1

Sir Walter Minto Townsend-Farquhar, 2nd Bt. was born on 26 October 1809.3 He was the son of Sir Robert Townsend-Farquhar, 1st Bt. and Maria Frances Geslip de Lautour.3 He married Erica Catherine Mackay, daughter of Eric Mackay, 7th Lord Reay, on 25 August 1835.3 He died on 18 June 1866 at age 56.3
He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Farquhar [U.K., 1821] on 16 March 1830.3 He was with the Diplomatic Service.3
