He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Clerke, of Hitcham, co. Buckingham [E., 1660] on 6 September 1678.1 His last will was dated 14 July 1699.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bamber in 1640.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bamber from January 1640/41 to 1648.2 He was educated at Queen’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.2 He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Surrey from 1654 to 1655.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Surrey between 1656 and 1658.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Surrey in 1659.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Guildford in 1660.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Guildford between 1661 and 1679.2 He was created 1st Baronet Onslow [England] on 8 May 1674, with precedence of 1660, his father-in-law’s baronetcy.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Surrey between 1679 and 1681.2
