Sir John Clerk of Penicuik, 1st Bt.1 
He was created 1st Baronet Clerk, of Penicuik, Edinburgh [Nova Scotia] on 24 March 1678/79.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for the County of Edinburgh [Scotland] between 1690 and 1702.1 In 1700 he bought the lands and Barony of Lasswade.1
