Major Sir Robert Clayton, 2nd Bt.1 
He gained the rank of Major in the 17th Regiment of Infantry.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Clayton, of Adlington, co. Lancaster [G.B., 1774] on 29 April 1828.1
On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1

He was admitted to Gray’s Inn on 30 April 1638.1 He held the office of Sheriff of County Durham from 1649 to 1650.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Durham between 1656 and 1658.1 He was created 1st Baronet Clavering, of Axwell, co. Durham [England] on 5 June 1661.1 He held the office of Sheriff of County Durham from 1673 to 1674.1
