     He held the office of Lord Chief of the Common Pleas [Ireland].²

     Anne White is the daughter of Charles White.¹ She married Sir Richard Clayton, 1st Bt., son of John Clayton and Elizabeth Goodwin, in 1780.¹
     From 1780, her married name became Clayton.¹

     Charles White married Ann Bradshaw.²
     He lived at Manchester, Lancashire, England^G.¹

     Major Sir Robert Clayton, 2nd Bt. was born in 1746.¹ He was the son of John Clayton and Elizabeth Goodwin.¹ He married Christophera Baldwin, daughter of Reverend Roger Baldwin, in 1780.¹ He died on 10 August 1839 at Adlington Hall, Adlington, Lancashire, England^G, without issue.¹ His will was proven (by probate) in November 1839.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the 17th Regiment of Infantry.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Clayton, of Adlington, co. Lancaster [G.B., 1774] on 29 April 1828.¹
     On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.¹

     Christophera Baldwin was the daughter of Reverend Roger Baldwin.¹ She married Major Sir Robert Clayton, 2nd Bt., son of John Clayton and Elizabeth Goodwin, in 1780.¹ She died before July 1848.¹ Her will was proven (by probate) in July 1848.¹
     From 1780, her married name became Clayton.¹

     Reverend Roger Baldwin was the Rector at Adlington, Lancashire, England^G.¹ He graduated with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)¹ He held the office of Prebendary of Carlisle between 1764 and 1801.¹

     Sir James Clavering, 1st Bt. was baptised on 3 February 1619/20 at St. Nicholas Church, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England^G.¹ He was the son of John Clavering and Anne Shafto.¹ He married Jane Madison, daughter of Henry Madison, on 23 April 1640 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England^G.¹ He died circa March 1701/2.¹ He was buried on 24 March 1701/2 at Whickham, County Durham, England^G.¹
     He was admitted to Gray’s Inn on 30 April 1638.¹ He held the office of Sheriff of County Durham from 1649 to 1650.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Durham between 1656 and 1658.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Clavering, of Axwell, co. Durham [England] on 5 June 1661.¹ He held the office of Sheriff of County Durham from 1673 to 1674.¹

     John Clavering was born circa 1592.¹ He died in May 1648.¹
     He lived at Axwell, County Durham, England^G.¹

     Anne Shafto is the daughter of Robert Shafto.¹
