Hugh d’Avranches, 1st Earl of Chester1 
Hugh d’Avranches, 1st Earl of Chester also went by the nick-name of Hugh ‘le Gros’.1 In 1066 he contributed 60 ships to the invasion of England, but did not fight at the Battle of Hastings.2,5 He was created 1st Earl of Chester [England] in 1071.1 He succeeded as the Vicomte d’Avranches after 1082.2 He founded the Abbey of St. Sever in Normandy and St. Werburg at Chester.2 On 23 July 1101 a monk.2

Ethel Marie Sumner Ryan was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. Sir Charles Snodgrass Ryan and Alice Alfrida Sumner.1,3 She married Richard Gardiner Casey, Baron Casey, son of Richard Gardiner Casey and Evelyn Jane Harris, on 24 June 1926.1 She died in 1983.1
From 24 June 1926, her married name became Casey.1 After her marriage, Ethel Marie Sumner Ryan was styled as Baroness Casey on 16 May 1960.
