He held the office of Warden of Carlisle in 1296.1 He fought in the Scottish Wars between 1304 and 1311.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cumberland in 1312.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Cumberland between 1312 and 1315.1 He held the office of Warden of Carlisle Castle in 1313.1 He held the office of Warden of the West Marches in 1319.1 He held the office of Warden of Cumberland in 1319.1 He held the office of Warden of Westmorland in 1319.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Cumberland between 1319 and 1322.1 He was created 1st Lord Harcla [England by writ] on 15 March 1321.1 He fought in the Battle of Boroughbridge on 16 March 1321/22, where he routed the insurgents, and took the Earl of Lancaster prisoner.1 He was created 1st Earl of Carlisle [England] on 25 March 1322.1 On 27 February 1322/23 at Knaresborough, Yorkshire, EnglandG, he was tried for intriguing with the Scots—he aspired to marry the sister of the Scots King.1 After his execution, his honours and titles were forfeited.1

Edward Denny, 1st and last Earl of Norwich1 
He was appointed Knight in 1589.2 He was educated at St. John’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.2 He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) Westmorland and Essex in 1592.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Westmorland from 1592 to 1593.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of Hertfordshire from 1602 to 1603.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Essex in 1604.2 He was created 1st Lord Denny, of Waltham [England by writ] on 27 October 1604.1 He was created 1st Earl of Norwich [England] on 24 October 1626.2 On his death, his Earldom expired, although the Barony, having been created by writ of summons, passed to his deceased daughter’s son.2
