James Carmichael, 2nd Earl of Hyndford and Lady Elizabeth Maitland.1 He was baptised on 29 November 1703 at Pettinain, Lanarkshire, Scotland.2 He married Jane Wilson in August 1734.1 He died on 15 December 1765, without issue.1
     He held the office of Archdeacon of Buckinghamshire in 1742.1 He held the office of Bishop of Clonfert and Kilmacdiagh in 1753.1 He held the office of Bishop of Meath in 1758.1 He held the office of Bishop of Leighlin and Ferns in 1758.1 He held the office of Archbishop of Dublin in June 1765.1
