He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was admitted to Barrister-at-Law in 1845.1 He was Counsel to the Home Office between 1861 and 1869.3 He was Parliamentary Counsel to the Government between 1869 and 1886.3 He was created 1st Baron Thring, of Alderhurst, co. Surrey [U.K.] on 17 August 1886.2 He held the office of High Steward of Kingston-on-Thames.3 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1
