     Ernest George Birch was born on 1 August 1829 at Yoxford, Suffolk, England^G.¹ He was the son of Reverend Henry William Rouse Birch and Lydia Mildred.¹ He was baptised on 30 August 1829.¹ He married, firstly, Emily Harriet Hutton, daughter of John D’Arcy Hutton.¹ He married, secondly, Sophie Ernle Money, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Robert Cotton Money and Selina Mary Douglas, before 1909.¹ He died on 19 January 1909 at age 79 at Via Farini, Florence, Italy^G.¹
     He held the office of Judge of the High Court of Calcutta.¹
