He was commander of the an independent troop.1 He was Chief Serjeant and General Collector and Receiver of taxes for Connaught and Thomond in 1582.2 Between 1598 and 1601 he helped suppress the native Irish under the Earl of Tyrone.2 He was appointed Knight in 1599.2 He held the office of Lord President of Connaught.1 He was created 1st Viscount Dillon of Costello-Gallin, co. Mayo [Ireland] on 16 March 1621/22.1
