Peerage Record – 1755

     Hon. Sir Thomas Leigh was born circa 1616.¹ He was the son of Thomas Leigh, 1st Baron Leigh of Stoneleigh and Mary Egerton.² He married, firstly, Anne Bingham, daughter of Richard Bingham and Emily Hudson, in 1642.¹ He married, secondly, Jane FitzMaurice, daughter of Patrick FitzMaurice, 17th Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw and Honor FitzGerald, in 1650.² He died on 5 April 1662.¹
     He was educated at Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G.¹ He was appointed Knight in 1642.³ He was a royalist during the English Civil War.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Staffordshire from 1661 to 1662.¹

     Sir Robert Burdett, 3rd Bt. was born on 11 January 1640.¹ He was the son of Sir Francis Burdett, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Walter.¹ He married, secondly, Magdalen Aston, daughter of Sir Thomas Aston, 1st Bt. and Anne Willoughby.¹ He married, firstly, Mary Pigot, daughter of Gervase Pigot and unknown St. Andrew.¹ He married, thirdly, Mary Brome, daughter of Thomas Brome.¹ He died on 18 January 1715/16 at age 76.¹
     He matriculated at Queen’s College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, on 21 March 1658/59.¹ He was admitted to Gray’s Inn in 1662.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Warwickshire between 1679 and 1681.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Lichfield between 1689 and 1698.¹ He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Burdett, of Bramcott, co. Warwick [E., 1619] on 30 December 1696.¹

     Sir Charles Sedley, 1st Bt. was born circa 1695.² He was the son of Sir Charles Sedley.² He died in 1730.²
     He lived at Southfleet, Kent, England^G.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Sedley, of Southfleet, co. Kent.

     William Jones lived at Ramsbury Manor, Wiltshire, England^G.¹

     Sir Francis Burdett, 5th Bt. was born on 25 January 1770.³ He was baptised on 25 January 1770 at Foremark, Derbyshire, England.⁴ He was the son of Francis Burdett and Eleanor Jones.⁵ He married Sophia Coutts, daughter of Thomas Coutts and Susan Starkie, on 5 August 1793.⁵ He died on 23 January 1844 at age 73.⁵ He was buried at Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England^G.⁵ His will was proven (by probate) in April 1844.⁵
     He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England^G.⁵ He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, on 13 December 1785.⁵ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Boroughbridge between 1796 and 1802.⁵ He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Burdett, of Bramcott, co. Warwick [E., 1619] on 13 February 1797.⁵ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Middlesex between 1802 and July 1804.⁵ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Middlesex between March 1805 and February 1806.⁵ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Westminster between 1807 and 1837.⁵ In 1810 he was imprisoned in the Tower for a breach of Parliamentary privilege.⁵ In 1819 he was fined £1,000 for a libel on the Government, and imprisoned for three months.⁵ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for North Wiltshire between 1837 and 1841.⁵

     Sophia Coutts was the daughter of Thomas Coutts and Susan Starkie.¹ She married Sir Francis Burdett, 5th Bt., son of Francis Burdett and Eleanor Jones, on 5 August 1793.¹ She died on 12 January 1844 at 25 St. James’ Place, London, England^G.¹ She was buried at Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England^G.¹ Her will was proven (by probate) in March 1844.¹
     Her married name became Burdett.

     Sir Robert Burdett, 6th Bt. was born on 16 April 1796 at Piccadilly, London, England^G.¹ He was the son of Sir Francis Burdett, 5th Bt. and Sophia Coutts.¹ He died on 7 June 1880 at age 84 at The Albany, Piccadilly, London, England^G, unmarried.¹ He died intestate and his estate was administered on 14 August 1880.¹
     He matriculated at Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, on 23 June 1813.¹ He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Burdett, of Bramcott, co. Warwick [E., 1619] on 23 January 1844.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the Army.¹ He held the office of Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1848.¹

     Sophia Burdett was baptised on 2 August 1794 at Foremark, Derbyshire, England.^2,3 She was the daughter of Sir Francis Burdett, 5th Bt. and Sophia Coutts.^1,2 She married Hon. Robert Otway-Cave, son of Henry Otway and Sarah Cave, Baroness Braye, on 23 October 1833.¹ She died on 30 December 1849 at age 55.¹
     From 23 October 1833, her married name became Otway-Cave.¹

     Hon. Robert Otway-Cave was the son of Henry Otway and Sarah Cave, Baroness Braye.¹ He married Sophia Burdett, daughter of Sir Francis Burdett, 5th Bt. and Sophia Coutts, on 23 October 1833.² He died on 29 November 1844, without issue.¹
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Leicester between 1826 and 1830.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Tipperary in 1832.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Tipperary between 1835 and 1844.¹ He lived at Castle Otway, County Tipperary, Ireland^G.² He lived at Stanford Hall, Lutterworth, England^G.²

     Henry Otway was the son of Cooke Otway.² He married Sarah Cave, Baroness Braye, daughter of Sir Thomas Cave, 6th Bt. and Sarah Edwards, on 25 February 1790 at St. George’s Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England^G.³ He died on 13 September 1815.³ He was buried at Stanford Hall, Rugby, Northamptonshire, England^G.³
     He lived at Castle Otway, County Tipperary, Ireland^G.⁴ He held the office of High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1804.³
