     Nigel Hartley Dryden Butterworth was born on 23 August 1936.² He is the son of Major Hartley N. Butterworth and Gladys Ethel Florence Dryden.^1,2 He married Jane Dawson, daughter of Geoffrey Hawkes Dawson and Helen Amy Blunt, on 23 January 1965.¹ He and Jane Dawson were divorced in 1983.¹
     He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, England^G.² He lived in 2003 at 1 The Courtyard, South Street, Great Chesterford, Saffron Walden, Essex, England^G.²

     Major Hartley N. Butterworth married Gladys Ethel Florence Dryden, daughter of Major John Erasmus Skottowe Dryden and Kate Mary Gibb, on 12 July 1934.¹ He died on 23 March 1992.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the Staffordshire Regiment.¹
