He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant on 9 April 1938 in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers.1,2 He fought in the Second World War, where he became a POW at Arnhem in September 1944.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 13 October 1945.2 He gained the rank of Captain on 1 July 1946.2
