Sir Edward William Watkin, 1st Bt.1 

Sir Edward William Watkin, 1st Bt. was born on 26 September 1819. He was the son of Absolom Watkin and Elizabeth Makinson.3 He married Mary Briggs Mellor, daughter of Johnathan Mellor, in 1845.3 He married Ann Little, daughter of William Little, on 6 April 1892.1 He died in 1901.
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Stockport between 1864 and 1868. He was a director and chairman of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway. He was president of the Grand Trunk of Canada. He was appointed Knight in 1868. He was chairman of the South Eastern Railway. He held the office of High Sheriff of Cheshire in 1874. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Hythe between 1874 and 1895. He gained the title of 1st Baronet Watkin in 1880.
