Catherine Margaret Ashton, Baroness Ashton of Upholland was born on 20 March 1956.1 She is the daughter of Harold Ashton and Clare Margaret (?)1 She married Peter Jon Kellner, son of Michael Kellner and Lily Agnes Samson McVail, in 1988.1
She was educated at Upholland Grammar School, Upholland, Lancashire, EnglandG.1 She graduated from London University, London, EnglandG, in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)1 She was Administration Secretary of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament between 1977 and 1979.1 She was business manager of the Coverdale Organisation between 1979 and 1981.1 She was director of public affairs for Business in the Community between 1983 and 1989.1 She was a freelance policy advisor between 1989 and 1998.1 She was created Baroness Ashton of Upholland, of St. Albans in the County of Hertfordshire [U.K. Life Peer] on 2 August 1999.1
She has a son and a daughter.1 She was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 2015.3
