He was Draper at London, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Alderman of Portsoken ward between 1639 and 1641.1 He held the office of Sheriff from 1639 to 1640.1 He held the office of Alderman of Billingsgate between 1641 and 1646.1 He held the office of Lord Mayor of London from 1645 to 1646.1 He held the office of Alderman of Cornhill between 16 September 1646 and 7 April 1647.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for London from 1654 to 1655.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for London between 1656 and 1658.1 He suffered greatly as a Royalist, and was said to have remitted as much as £10,000 to King Charles II.1 He purchased Sprowston Hall, Norfolk.1 He was appointed Knight in May 1660.1 He was created 1st Baronet Adams, of Sprowston Hall, Norfolk [England] on 13 June 1660.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3
