Hugh de Meulan, 1st and last Earl of Bedford1
Hugh de Meulan, 1st and last Earl of Bedford also went by the nick-name of Hugo ‘le Pauvre’ (or in English, ‘the Pauper.1,3‘) He was created 1st Earl of Bedford [England] in 1138, although this creation is very doubtful.1,3 He appears to have lapsed into poverty, and lost the Earldom of Bedford.4
