Sir Nicholas Bagenal1
He was appointed Knight Marechal [Ireland].2 He was also known as Sir Nicholas Bagnall.2 He fled England after killing a man in a brawl circa 1539.1 In 1543 he became a mercenary under Con Bacach “The Lame”, King of Ulster and 1st Earl of Tyrone, who obtained a free pardon for him from King Henry VIII.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) (Ireland.)1 He held the office of Marshal-General of the Army in Ireland between 1550 and 1553.1 He was granted at Newry Castle, County Down, IrelandG, and substantial lands circa 1552.1 He was forced to resign as the Marshal-General of the Army by Queen Mary.1 In 1558 he was reinstated by Queen Elizabeth as the Marshal-General of the Army in Ireland.1 He was appointed Knight in 1566.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Down in 1585.1 He lived at Newry, County Armagh, IrelandG.3
