He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.2 In 1824 he took Anglican orders.2 He was a chaplain to Bishop Chester.2 He was a rector at Brington, Northamptonshire, EnglandG.2 In 1830 he converted to Catholicism.2 He was a Roman Catholic priest from 1832 to 1839 at West Bromwich, Staffordshire, EnglandG.2 He was a professor from 1839 to 1846 at St. Mary’s College, Oscott, Handsworth, Warwickshire, EnglandG.2 He was a superior (as Ignatius of St. Paul) in the Order of Passionists.2 He took the religious name of Father Ignatius of St. Paul. He translated Life of Blessed Paul of the Cross.2 In March 2007 the Catholic Church completed the first stage for his cause for beatification.3

William Mansfield, 1st and last Viscount Sandhurst1

William Mansfield, 1st and last Viscount Sandhurst was born on 31 August 1855.1 He was the son of William Rose Mansfield, 1st Baron Sandhurst of Sandhurst and Margaret Fellowes.1,3 He married, firstly, Lady Victoria Alexandrina Spencer, daughter of Vice-Admiral Frederick Spencer, 4th Earl Spencer and Adelaide Horatia Elizabeth Seymour, on 20 July 1881.4 He married, secondly, Eleanor Mary Caroline Arnold, daughter of Matthew Arnold and Frances Lucy Wightman, on 5 July 1909.1 He died on 2 November 1921 at age 66.3
He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant between 1875 and 1879 in the Coldstream Guards.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Sandhurst of Sandhurst, co. Berks [U.K., 1871] on 23 June 1876.3 He held the office of Lord-in-Waiting between 1880 and 1885.1 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for War in 1886.1 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for War between 1892 and 1895.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Commander, Order of the Indian Empire (G.C.I.E.) in 1895.3 He held the office of Governor of Bombay between 1895 and 1900.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Commander, Order of the Star of India (G.C.S.I.) in 1900.3 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1907.1 He held the office of Lord Chamberlain of the Household between 1912 and 1921.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1917.3 He was created 1st Viscount Sandhurst, of Sandhurst, co. Berks. [U.K.] on 1 January 1917.1 On his death, his viscountancy became extinct.1
