He was given the name of Clinton James Clinton at birth.2 He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1817 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 On 26 April 1821 his name was legally changed to Clinton James Fynes-Clinton.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Aldborough, Yorkshire.1 His name was legally changed to Clinton James Fiennes-Clinton.2 He was a practising barrister.2
