Admiral of the Fleet Sir William Staveley1 
Admiral of the Fleet Sir William Staveley was born on 10 November 1928.3 He was the son of Admiral Cecil Minet Staveley and Margaret Adela Sturdee.4,3 He married Bettina Shuter in 1954.3 He died on 13 October 1997 at age 68 at Seveonoaks, Kent, England.3
He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1981.3 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1984.1 He held the office of Chief of Naval Staff between 1985 and 1989.3 He held the office of First Sea Lord between 1985 and 1989.3
