Ranald Macdonald, 19th of Clanranald and Moidart and 5th of Benbecula1 
He was educated at St. Germain des Prés, Paris, FranceG.1 He was a Jacobite, raising and supporting troops at his own expense for Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745.1 He was He gave a large bond to enable the Prince’s army to leave Edinburgh, a burden which seriously impaired the family’s fortune, the remainder of which he was able to retain as his name was wrongly inscribed as Donald in the Act of Attainder, and he therefore escaped its effects.1 He assisted Alexander Macdonald, 15th of Seat to raise the 76th Regiment, which formed part of Lord Cornwallis’ forces in America.1
