     He gained the title of 4th Baronet Maitland, of Pitrichie.

     Jean Maitland was born circa 1682.1 She was the daughter of Sir Charles Maitland of Pitrichie, 3rd Bt. and Jean Forbes.1 She married Alexander Maitland, son of Robert Arbuthnott, 2nd Viscount of Arbuthnott and Catherine Gordon, on 25 September 1704 at St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, ScotlandG.1 She died on 22 October 1746.1

     Alexander Maitland was born on 17 June 1674 at Arbuthnot, Kincardineshire, ScotlandG.1 He was the son of Robert Arbuthnott, 2nd Viscount of Arbuthnott and Catherine Gordon.1 He married Jean Maitland, daughter of Sir Charles Maitland of Pitrichie, 3rd Bt. and Jean Forbes, on 25 September 1704 at St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, ScotlandG.1 He died in 1721.1
     He was given the name of Alexander Arbuthnott at birth.1 Circa 1704 his name was legally changed to Alexander Maitland on inheriting Pitrichie through his wife.1
