     Ralph Lionel Maitland-Heriot was born in 1895.1 He was the son of Frederick Maitland-Heriot and Emily Macaulay Pelly.2 He married Helen Moira Jeffries, daughter of Harry Hugh Jeffries, on 1 October 1927.1 He died on 12 March 1935.1
     He fought in the First World War, with the Royal Field Artillery, and where he was mentioned in despatches and was wounded twice.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1917 and bar.1
