     Captain Thomas Stannus was born in 1736.2 He was the son of Trevor Stannus and Jane Sibthorp.2 He married Caroline Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton, in 1784.2 He died in May 1813.2
     He fought in the American War of Independence, where he was severely wounded.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Portarlington between 1789 and 1799.2
