(Conservative) for South Essex between 1874 and 1892.1 He was governor of the Gas Light and Coke Company.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Essex.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the 1st Essex Artillery, East Division, Royal Artillery Voluntary Brigade.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Oxfordshire.1 He was awarded the Volunteer Officers’ Decoration (V.D.)1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Essex.1 He was deputy chairman of GER.1 He held the office of Lieutenant of the City of London.1 He was created 1st Baronet Makins, of Rotherfield Court, co. Oxford [U.K.] on 9 January 1903.1
