He was appointed Knight on 29 January 1487/88.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Carlyle of Torthorwald [S., 1474] circa 1501.1 On 12 January 1500/1 he had a charter of the Barony of Carlyle.1 On 11 May 1503 he had seizin of certain of his grandfather’s lands.1
