Admiral Edward Russell, 1st Earl of Orford was born in 1652/53.1 He was the son of Hon. Edward Russell and Penelope Hill.1 He married Lady Margaret Russell, daughter of William Russell, 1st Duke of Bedford and Lady Anne Carr, on 12 November 1691.1 He died on 26 November 1727, without issue.1
He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1671 in the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1672.1 He fought in the Third Dutch War.1 He held the office of Groom of the Bedchamber to the Duke of York between 1677 and 1682, later King James II.1 He was an active supporter of King William III prior to the Glorious Revolution in 1688, making trips between England and the Netherlands.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Blue in 1689.1 He held the office of Treasurer of the Navy between 1689 and 1699.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Launceston from 1689 to 1690.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in February 1688/89.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Channel Fleet in 1690 but inactive against the French, despite favourable odds.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Portsmouth between 1690 and 1695.1 He was a Commissioner of the Admiralty from 1690 to 1691.1 He fought in the Battle of La Hogue in 1692, where his 82 ships defeated the French 45 ships.1 He held the office of Captain-General of the Narrow Seas in 1693.1 He held the office of Vice-Admiral of England in 1693.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Fleet in 1693.1 He held the office of First Lord of the Admiralty between 1694 and 1699.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet from 1694 to 1695.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Cambridgeshire between 1695 and 1697.1 He was Commander-inChief of the Channel Fleet from February 1695/96 to March 1695/96.1 He was created 1st Viscount Barfleur [England] on 7 May 1697.1 He was created 1st Baron of Shingay, co. Cambridge [England] on 7 May 1697.1 He was created 1st Earl of Orford, co. Suffolk [England] on 7 May 1697.1 He held the office of First Lord of the Admiralty from 1709 to 1710.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire in 1714.1 He held the office of First Lord of the Admiralty between 1714 and 1717.1
On his death, all three of his peerages became extinct.1

Colonel Francis Russell1 
Colonel Francis Russell was the son of Hon. Edward Russell and Penelope Hill.1 He married Catharine Grey, daughter of William Grey, 1st Baron Grey of Warke, on 30 April 1691.1 He died circa 1 October 1696.1
He held the office of Governor of Barbados between 1694 and 1696.1
Catharine Grey1 
From April 1665, her married name became Mosley.1 From circa 6 April 1667, her married name became North. From 30 April 1691, her married name became Russell.1

He was educated at University College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He was created 1st Baronet Grey, of Warke, co. Northumberland [England] in 1619.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Northumberland in 1621.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Northumberland in 1624.2 He was created 1st Baron Grey of Warke, co. Northumberland [England] on 11 February 1623/24.3 He held the office of Speaker, House of Lords between 1643 and 1646.2

Sir Edward Mosley, 2nd Bt.1 
He was created 2nd Baronet Mosley [E., 1640] circa December 1657.2 He was educated at Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1660.2 He purchased the Hulme estate in 1661.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for St. Michael’s between 1661 and 1665.2
Charles North, 5th Baron North1

Charles North, 5th Baron North was born on 1 October 1635 at Kirtling, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.3 He was the son of Dudley North, 4th Baron North and Anne Montagu.4 He married Catharine Grey, daughter of William Grey, 1st Baron Grey of Warke, circa 6 April 1667.1 He died in January 1690/91 at age 55.1
He was educated at Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He was appointed Knight before 1667.1 He was created 1st Baron Grey, of Rolleston [England by writ] on 24 October 1673.1 He was created 1st Baron Grey, of Rolleston [England by writ] on 27 October 1673.5 He succeeded as the 5th Baron North [E., 1554] on 24 June 1677.1 He held the office of Governor of Portsmouth in 1681.1
