He was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) on 11 July 1851.1 He held the office of a Bencher of Lincoln’s Inn on 3 November 1851.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Bridgewater, Somerset between 1852 and 1857.1 He held the office of Registrar of the Land Registry between 1862 and 1886.1
