Sir John Arnott, 1st Bt. was born on 26 July 1814.1 He was the son of John Arnott and Elizabeth Paton.1 He married, firstly, Mary McKinlay, daughter of John James McKinlay, on 20 January 1852.1 He married, secondly, Emily Jane Fitzgerald, daughter of Reverend Edward Loftus Fitzgerald, on 7 November 1872.1 He died on 28 March 1898 at age 83.1
He held the office of Mayor of Cork between 1859 and 1861.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kinsale between 1859 and 1863.1 He was a philanthropist and promoter of industry.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the City and County Cork.1 He was created 1st Baronet Arnott, of Woodlands, Shandon, co. Cork [U.K.] on 12 February 1896.1
