He gained the title of Herzog von Bayern in 1070.1 His marriage to Judith van Vlaanderen was annulled repudiated by Guelph. He was deposed as Duke of Bavaria in 1077.1 He succeeded as the Herzog von Bayern in 1096.1

He was also known as Henry Baird.3 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He matriculated at King’s College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, on 23 August 1632.1 He was a Fellow from 1635 to 1645 at Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1636 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1642 in the Royalist army.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.) by Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1643.4 He was appointed Knight on 22 November 1643.1 He was created 1st Baronet Bard, of Staines, co. Middlesex [England] on 8 October 1644.4 He fought in the Battle of Cheriton Down, where he lost the use of an arm while distinguishing himself in the Royalist cause.1 He was Governor of Campden House, near Evesham, Gloucestershire in May 1645, although he was responsible for its destruction.1 He was created 1st Baron Bard of Dromboy, co. Westmeath [Ireland] on 18 July 1645.1 He was created 1st Viscount Bellomont, co. Dublin [Ireland] on 18 July 1645.1 He was Governor of Worcester.1 In 1654 he travelled to the Shah of Persia and the Great Moghul of India, in order to raise money for the exiled King Charles II.1
John Hall described him as “a man of a very personable body and of a stout and undauntd courage,’ although Anthony á Wood called him “a compact body of vanity and ambition, thogh robust and comely.”1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.5
