Lady Mary Katherine Crichton1

Lady Mary Katherine Crichton was born on 8 July 1905.3 She was the daughter of Lt.-Col. Henry William Crichton, Viscount Crichton and Lady Mary Cavendish Grosvenor.3 She married James Edward Hamilton, 4th Duke of Abercorn, son of James Albert Edward Hamilton, 3rd Duke of Abercorn and Lady Rosalind Cecilia Caroline Bingham, on 9 February 1928 at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church, Covent Garden, London, EnglandG.1,4 She died on 2 February 1990 at age 84.1
On 29 September 1920 she was granted the rank of an earl’s daughter.3 Her married name became Hamilton. After her marriage, Lady Mary Katherine Crichton was styled as Duchess of Abercorn on 12 September 1953. She held the office of Mistress of the Robes to HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother between 1964 and 1990.1 She was appointed Dame Commander, Royal Victorian Order (D.C.V.O.) in 1969.1
