Sir Ion Hamilton Benn, 1st Bt.1 
He was educated at Merchant Taylors’ School, London, England.1 He held the office of Mayor of Greenwich between 1901 and 1902.1 He held the office of Member of London City Council between 1907 and 1910, for Greenwich.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Greenwich between 1910 and 1922.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy Volunteers Reserve.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, where he was mentioned in dispatches three times.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1918.1 He was appointed Knight of Grace, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.G.St.J.)1 He was created 1st Baronet Benn, of Rollesby, co. Norfolk [U.K.] on 17 June 1920.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.) in 1926.1
