He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, England.4 He gained the rank of Ensign in 1810 in the Coldstream Guards.4 He gained the rank of Captain in 1814.4 He fought in the Peninsular Wars in 1814.4 He gained the rank of Captain in 1817 in the 93rd Foot.4 He gained the rank of Captain in 1818 in the Nova Scotia Fencibles.4 He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Rous, of Henham Hall [E., 1660] on 27 August 1827.4 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Rous of Dennington, co. Suffolk [G.B., 1796] on 27 August 1827.4 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Dunwich, co. Suffolk [U.K., 1821] on 27 August 1827.4 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Stradbroke, co. Suffolk [U.K., 1821] on 27 August 1827.4 He gained the rank of Colonel between 1830 and 1844 in the East Suffolk Militia.4 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk between 1844 and 1896.4
