     He gained the rank of Admiral in the Royal Navy.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Westminster.¹ He was a celebrated authority in racing circles.¹

     Sophia Cuthbert was the daughter of James Ramsay Cuthbert.¹ She married Admiral Hon. Henry John Rous, son of John Rous, 1st Earl of Stradbroke and Charlotte Maria Whittaker, on 2 January 1836.¹ She died on 30 January 1871.¹
     From 2 January 1836, her married name became Rous.¹
