     Denzil Holles, 1st Baron Holles was born on 31 October 1599. He was the son of John Holles, 1st Earl of Clare and Anne Stanhope. He married, firstly, Dorothy Ashley, daughter of Sir Francis Ashley, on 4 June 1626. He married, secondly, Jane Shirley, daughter of Sir John Shirley, on 12 March 1641/42. He married, thirdly, Esther le Lou, daughter of Gideon le Lou, on 14 September 1666. He died on 17 February 1679/80 at age 80.
     He gained the title of 1st Baron Holles. He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for St. Michael, Cornwall in 1624. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dorchester in 1628. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dorchester between 1640 and 1648. He held the office of Ambassador to France between 1663 and 1666.

     Dorothy Ashley was the daughter of Sir Francis Ashley. She married Denzil Holles, 1st Baron Holles, son of John Holles, 1st Earl of Clare and Anne Stanhope, on 4 June 1626. She died on 21 June 1640.
     From 4 June 1626, her married name became Holles.

     Esther le Lou was the daughter of Gideon le Lou. She married Denzil Holles, 1st Baron Holles, son of John Holles, 1st Earl of Clare and Anne Stanhope, on 14 September 1666. She died in 1684.
     From 14 September 1666, her married name became Holles.
