He was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of brevet Major in 1899 in the Grenadier Guards.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1908.1 He was General Staff Officer of the War Office between 1908 and 1910.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.1 He held the office of Military Attaché to Berne (with the rank of Brigadier-General) between 1919 and 1920.1 In 1920 he went on a special mission to Chile.1 He held the office of Romanian Boundary Commissioner between 1921 and 1926.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in 1926.1 He was a director of Sun Insurance Office.1
