     Sir Edward Hales, 1st Bt. was born circa 1577.¹ He was the son of William Hales and Elizabeth Johnson.¹ He married, firstly, Deborah Harlackenden, daughter of Martin Harlackenden, circa 1602.¹ He married, secondly, Martha Carew, daughter of Sir Matthew Carew and Alice Rivers, on 27 November 1616.¹ He died on 6 October 1654.¹
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Kent between 1601 and 1643.¹ He was appointed Knight in 1603.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Hastings in 1605.¹ He held the office of High Sheriff of Kent in 1608/9.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Hales [England] on 29 June 1611.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Hastings in 1614.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Queenborough in 1625.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kent in 1626.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Queenborough between 1640 and 1648.¹

     John Hales was the son of Sir Edward Hales, 1st Bt. and Deborah Harlackenden.¹ He died in 1639.¹
