He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Totnes in 1614.1 He was appointed Knight on 8 November 1617.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for East Retford in 1621.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Harwich from 1624 to 1625.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newport, Isle of Wight in 1625.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Harwich from 1626 to 1629.1 He was deputy governor of Providence Island Company on 7 March 1635.1
