     Robert Carnegie was born on 2 July 1796.1 He was the son of Patrick Carnegie of Lour and Margaret St. Clair Bower.1 He married, firstly, Amelia Nimmo on 1 October 1821.1 He married, secondly, Christian Ramsay, daughter of John Ramsay, on 3 March 1831.1 He married, thirdly, Jane Montgomerie, daughter of Robert Montgomerie, in September 1841.1
     He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1
