Herbert Sartoris was born on 12 November 1845 at Rushden, Nottinghamshire, England.1 He was the son of Frederick Urban Sartoris and Mary Anne Pratt.1 He married Caroline Mary Thornton, daughter of Harry Thornton and Caroline Margaret Christie, in 1874 at Bedford, Bedfordshire, England.1 He died on 30 August 1900 at age 54 at Ostende, Belgium.1
