     Colonel John Kinder Spilling was born in 1850 at Bungay, Suffolk, England.¹ He was the son of John Ellis Spilling and Ellen Kinder.¹ He married Constance Mabel Bainbridge, daughter of Anthony Fothergill Bainbridge and Lily Matilda Rickards, in 1873 at Wandsworth, Surrey, England.¹ He died on 22 March 1936.¹
     He was commissioned in June 1868 with the rank of Cornet, in the service of the 13th Hussars.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1871.¹ He fought in the Afghanistan War between 1880 and 1881.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1885.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in 1889 in the 13th Hussars.¹
